Bankstown Civic Precinct

The Bankstown civic precinct in southwest Sydney brings together education, retail and public space beneath a striking red-and-glass landmark building. Sun Young Stone supplied the granite that grounds the precinct — a hard-wearing, patterned plaza that ties the streetscape, colonnade and gathering spaces into one continuous surface.

A Patterned Plaza Built for Daily Life

The plaza is paved in a two-tone granite pattern, mixing grey and charcoal modules in a scattered, contemporary rhythm that adds visual interest to a large open space. A flamed, anti-slip finish keeps the surface safe in all weather, while the dense granite stands up to constant foot traffic, prams, maintenance vehicles and outdoor events.

Integrated Stone Seating and Landscape

Beyond paving, the precinct combines timber-topped benches with solid stone elements and planted garden beds edged in granite. Coordinating the paving modules with kerbs, tree surrounds and seating zones required precise sizing so the pattern reads cleanly around every planter and threshold.

Engineered for a Demanding Public Realm

Civic projects leave no room for tolerance errors. Each granite unit was calibrated to consistent thickness and dimension and dry-laid in our facility before shipment, so the pattern aligned on site and the installation stayed on programme across a busy, phased construction site.
